Introduction to Jagua Temporary Tattoos

Jagua Step by Step Guide

1.Unscrew the top of the applicator. Finely cut or pierce the tip of the nossle.

2.Hold the applicator like a pen and squeeze gently to draw your design.

3.The gel takes approximately an hour to dry; do not touch or smudge the design in this time.

4.Leave the Jagua gel on your skin for a total of two hours, then peel off all the remaining dry gel (try to avoid scraping your skin).

5.Rinse the tattooed area with water. DON’T PANIC if nothing can
be seen, wait for the Jagua magic to happen.

6.Over the next 24-48 hours your tattoo will develop its colour.

The tattoo will last 10-15 days, dependant on your skin type.

How to make a Temporary Tattoo Transfer

1.Trace your chosen design onto the transfer paper. Re-trace over the design on the flip side.

This is the side which you will need to press against your skin.

2.Cut out the transfer leaving at least 1cm between the design and the edge of the paper.

3.Lightly moisten the skin with soapy water and press the transfer against the skin with light even pressure. Peel it away to reveal your image.

4.You are now ready to apply the Jagua Gel.

In no time at all a complicated design can be made that much easier.

Jagua is NOT Black Henna

It is important that people realise that Jagua is not so called ‘black henna’/PPD (Para-phenylenediamine) which has had justifiably bad press due to it being extremely harmful. We are hoping Jagua will eradicate the use of ‘black henna’ as it fulfils the desire for black temporary tattoos without the risk.

Unfortunately, Jagua Tattoo Gel looks very similar to PPD products when being applied through a cone or bottle. i.e. it is a black coloured smooth gel. However Jagua Tattoo Products do have some unique characteristics that clearly distinguish them from PPD products.

Jagua Tattoo Products have a distinctive ‘fruity’ smell.
Jagua Tattoo Products leave behind a very pale greyish stain at first – the true colour takes 12-48 hours to develop.

PPD products usually contain no fragrance at all.
PPD products leave behind a black stain instantly.

Hopefully, the newly developed Jagua Tattoo Products will soon eliminate the use of all dangerous PPD products. Surely even the most irresponsible body artists & product suppliers who currently make their living using PPD would rather use a safe product given the choice.

How To Spot PPD When It Is Blatantly Being Mis-Sold As A Safe Body Art Service Or Product

Stay Away From Products That:

1. Claim to be ‘Black Henna’

2. Have henna powder + coal tar dyes listed as part of their ingredients.

3. Have henna powder + metallic salts listed as part of their ingredients.

4. Have any of the names of PPD, as described above, in their ingredient listing.

5. Claim to be ‘Black Henna’ and have no ingredients listed

6. Advise you to possibly seek medical attention, steroid creme etc… in the ‘rare’ case of an allergic reaction.

7. Contain a greyish – purple coloured powder that you need to mix with water.

8. Advise you to mix with plastic/wooden utensils, avoiding contact with metals.

Stay Away From Any Service Offered Where:

1. The artist claims to be applying ‘Black Henna’

2. The artist advises against working on children.

3. The artist advises you that in very ‘rare’ circumstances some people ‘may’ be allergic to the product… and ‘may’ need steroid crème from the doctor/pharmacist

4. You can see the colour on the skin underneath the paste is turning black before your eyes

5. You can see the artist mixing greyish-purple powder with water and then putting it into an application cone or bottle

6. Be extra cautious when the artist is a street vendor in a tourist resort – most skin reactions take place 10-14 days after initial application. So usually the uninformed tourist is already on their way home before the itching starts, hence the irresponsible vendor never has any come back and continues to injure & scar countless more tourists, making money at their physical expense.

7. Don’t assume either, that just because an artist is working from a reputable department store, hair salon or beauty salon that their products are safe. A lot of stores operate concessions, and a lot of irresponsible artists have been known to use PPD in these stores. Always check the product out that they are using. Any reputable Temporary Body Artist will show you their product ingredient listing, and will also confirm that……. There Is No Such Thing As Black Henna!

Brief Overview
Jagua for centuries has been used by tribes of the South American jungles to adorn themselves with black temporary tattoos for rituals, ceremonies and festivals. The natural dye is found in the Jagua fruit (locally called Genipa Americana,Caruto,Huito,Jenipapo,Genipa,) which grows on trees throughout tropical and sub tropical regions of South & Central America. Jagua gel is totally natural, safe and fun for everyone to use.

Henna is a plant more commonly known as Mendhi / lawsonia inermis (various spellings) throughout most of India and Pakistan and has been used traditionally for centuries.

Colour
This is the main difference betwen these two temporary tattoo products most natural henna paste creates a brown tattoo, where as Jagua creates a blue black ‘real look’ tattoo colour.

How they work
Both Henna Tattoos and Jagua Tattoos work by staining the epidermis (upper layer of your skin). Both Henna tattoos and Jagua tattoos can not be seen straight away, no need to panic as they get darker reaching full colour over the next 12-48 hours, then gradually fade away as your body regenerates it’s epidermis.

Application and Use
Jagua gel needs no pre mixing, so no planning is necessary so less mess and waste. Use it straight from the tube, or use the fine line application cone. Henna paste has to be mixed at least 4 hours, preferably 6 hours prior to use for the paste to become usable.

Jagua comes in a squeezy tube or you can use the fine line application cone. For best results cut the Jagua tube finely. It is a bit similar to cake icing, practice first. The fine line application cone should also be cut finely, and can be use like a pen. The actual application techniques of henna and jagua are similar.

Henna takes between 20 minutes to 45 minutes to dry once applied to the skin. Jagua gel where it is a fruit based dye has a texture close to jam, and takes slightly longer to dry being between 30 minutes to 1 hour.

Exact drying time depends upon several variables, such as: Ambient Air Temperature, Body Temperature, Size of design, Type of Design.

Once Jagua gel has been on for two hours it is peeled away carefully and the tattooed area is rinsed with water.

Aftercare
Both Henna and Jagua Tattoos have very similar after care, it’s very important to look after them well to get the best results. Your Tattoo’s will be part of your skin for the next few weeks, so treat it gently and your tattoo will look great and last as long as it possibly can.

To make sure your Tattoo lasts as long as possible:

•  Follow all the application instructions.
•  Avoid contact with bleaching chemicals such as household cleaning fluids, and chlorinated water in swimming pools.
•  Avoid saunas and steam rooms and these actively encourage your skins natural regeneration cycle.
•  Avoid contact with abrasives such as exfoliating products etc.
•  When showering/bathing do not scrub your skin, just wash it gently with mild soap.
•  After showering/bathing do not rub your skin dry, pat it gently with a towel instead.

Duration
Both of these temporary tattoo products lasts for approximatley 10-15 days, the specific duration varies from person to person according to variables such as, skin type, skin condition,body location and lifestyle.
